Super Atomic

Georgia based Hard Rockers KICKIN VALENTINA are here to make a mark, with good ol' fashion 80s Rock N Roll. If you don't know these guys, it's far from too late with their new album "Super Atomic" being a throwback to the bands that got the Rock rolling was back in the dark ages. 10 songs, well 11 if you include the 30 second intro about how Rock is "the devils music", and each of the songs are about as you'd expect: gritty, dirty, Rock.
As mentioned above, the opening track "Sermon" is just the typical political nonsense about how Rock is the devils music and you'll go to hell. All this is before jumping into; you guessed it, some traditional Rock tunes. "On My Side," "Wrong Way" and "Get Ready" start the album with AEROSMITH and THE ROLLING STONES inspired 70s-80s Rock that features catchy chorus and verse section, not to over the top guitar riffs, but just enough hooks to keep you glued. Songs like "Fist N Twist" and "Super Atomic Poster Boy" sound more modern WE ARE HARLOT style of Rock, meaning they take a more modern twist on old Rock songs.
They're just as catchy as the songs before but the riffs are a little duller and not quite as compelling. Near the end of the album songs like "Some Kind Of Sex" and "Dirty Girl" will grace your ear drums the way AC/DC tend to. Clearly more sex based Rock, although AC/DC did tend to not be as straight forward with it as KICKIN VALENTINA are here. Again, the songs are catchy, the riffs are slick, although not jaw dropping. All the drumming through the album is rather boring and if you told me this band didn't have a bassist, I'd probably believe you as the bass is completely inaudible throughout the album.
Classic and good Rock is hard to come across these days. The modern bands tend to all want to sound alike, KICKING VALENTINA are a nice throwback to simpler times in the rock world. Although not the most interesting of albums after a few straight listens it gets boring, it's the kind of album you can find yourself drinking to with a few friends and no one complaining.
