Doin Earde

As well as a genre that provides a lighter relief to the usual Death Metal, Folk Metal is also a genre that involves many unique instruments that enhance the folklore tales within the sound. Until today, I couldn't have told you that I knew a bouzouki is a small lute type instrument played by medieval minstrels and that a rauschpfeife is a small medieval whistle. After a little lesson in aged, fascinating instruments I shall go on to tell you a tale about a group of seven who have used them in the modern age; they are Folk Metal group KANSEIL with their latest album "Doin Earde".
Hailing from the seemingly tranquil Italian city of Fregona known for it's caves and stunning scenery KANSEIL formed in the year 2010. Their name is influenced by the ancient name of Cansiglio, its home places mountains that are often written about in their grand melodies. After a demo, more than twenty live shows in the year 2014 and joining Irish label Nemeton Records they bring fourth their first full length.
It starts off in the usual Folk Metal fashion with an opening instrumental track that is known as "Lo Spirito Della Notte" that gives the listener the right ambience on what to expect on this epic record. This first full-length gives a great selection of tracks; seeing that they are now signed to an Irish record label highlights the Celtic sounds coming from the whistles, bagpipes, bouzouki and kantele. I am a personal admirer of any Celtic so this band and album get the infamous rock horns from yours truly.
My personal favourite track on the album "Bosc Da Rème"; I particularly admired the bounciness and the authentic aged instruments alongside the modern distortion. I also quite admire the fact it reminds me of Finnish Folk Metal outfit KORPIKLANNI. I found myself bouncing up and down in my seat as I listened intently.
It ends triumphantly on the closing track "Vajont" which only left me wanting more. They are certainly a high recommendation for those who love Folk Metal, particularly ENSIFERUM, KORPIKLANNI and FINNTROLL.
