Just Before Dawn - The Dead and Those About to Die album cover

The album "The Dead and Those About to Die" is the third release from the multi-international Death Metal Band JUST BEFORE DAWN, and the band's first EP. This is the pet project of former AMON AMARTH member Anders Biazzi who helped form AMON AMARTH and played on some of their earlier albums. Most of the lyrical themes talk about War and the atrocities of War, hence the name of the album. ''The Dead and Those About to Die'' draws a horrible truth to what War means to the men and women serving in those situations throughout the world. This is a nice continuation from ''The Aftermath'', the group's previous full album and still carries the same vibe from their first release in 2012.

Like on the previous release, we have a lot of guest musicians adding their unique touch to this EP. It does add a lot of depth to a somewhat bland genre like Death Metal. It's not easy to carve out a unique place for yourself from the genre because, in my opinion, it  hasn't had much of a revolution in over ten years. Other than crushing beats and the harsh vocals, usually it's always the same thing all over again.
It doesn't have the Viking elements from Anders Biazzi previous band, but it's a very crushing EP nonetheless. It pulls no punches and leaves you breathless by some of the sheer speed of some songs. It still has that Melodic Death Metal vibe, but it gives you a lot of variety at the same time. The music barely gives you time to take a breath, it's in the same vein of some of the Classic Swedish Metal styles that were popular in the late nineties and early 2000's.

It's not the most original album you'll hear, but it's still a very solid effort from a very unique band. Like I said beforehand, there is a lot of guest musicians which adds variety and makes the music rich and deep. This was the key element that really made me like this album even more. If you really enjoyed there two previous releases, this is something that you can't pass up! I know the genre can be really stale at times, but this was pretty fun and does re-energize you after a long day at work! A band that has a lot of potential and would enjoy seeing them in North America if they ever come this way!
