John Hoyles - Night Flight (Reissue) album cover

JOHN HOYLES is a British musician and known for his work on the legendary Swedish band WITCHCRAFT and SPIDERS. Years after playing in these bands, John released his first solo album "Night Flight" in 2017 and that's what we're going to talk about.

The first song on the album "Talking About You" starts with a Rock N 'Roll riff and then it shows a British Punk Rock vibe practiced in the 70's and 80's. The mixing of styles gave the song a fun result. The song still has a very good Rock N 'Roll guitar solo that perfectly matched the style. The next song on the album is the title track "Night Flight" which starts with a kind of folk guitar and then comes in a guitar playing a psychedelic riff and the drums completing the song. It's a fun and darker song than the last one. It even reminded me of "Ghost Riders In The Sky" at certain times. The guitar solo is very interesting and has some very different variations.

''Police Car'' starts with a very interesting riff and has an 80's vibe. It's a song that will make you bang your head at first chord. It's a very lively song and it's impossible to not sing the chorus. The next song "Minefield" has a different vibe from the previous songs and shows a bit of Indie. It's a very interesting song that shows the composer's versatility. It also comes to resemble British Rock. The next song "In The Garden" is a ballad that starts with a well-played fingering guitar that has a catchy chorus and vocal lines. "The Dark Descent" is a psychedelic song that has a high use of whammy bar.

After the psychedelics of the previous song, we have the ''Before I Leave'' which is more Rock N 'Roll and excited. The guitar riffs are choppy and there are several solos in the music that gives a DEEP PURPLE feel. It's a track that guitarists will love, because there are amazing solos and a very rocky vibe. "Tomorrow" starts as another ballad on the album and a little darker. It starts with a fingering guitar and some cymbal sounds. It comes back to something reminiscent of JOHNNY CASH and has a very interesting setting as it differs greatly from the other songs on the album. Then come Rock N 'Roll guitars and the song takes on another vibe, reminiscent of the sound of British Punk. The last song from the album "Highwire" starts in a very Punk Rock way that reminds me of GREEN DAY. It's a buzzing song that will make you bang your head with riffs and mind-blowing solos.

JOHN HOYLES has released an album that shows his different sides as a composer and instrumentalist. It's an album with a variety of songs, it's exciting and you will be surprised by the work this guy has done.
