Dawn Of Misery
In Vain

One more demo CD reaches my hands and I am more than willing to review it. It is always nice keeping in touch with the underground scene and discovering hidden treasures in it. Unfortunately, IN VAIN are definitely not a hidden treasure of the underground since the only thing that this CD caused me was sleepiness. Read below to understand the reasons why.
IN VAIN hail from Madrid, Spain, and they have already released one more demo CD in 2005 (Spirit Of Death). I haven't had the chance to listen to it, but I doubt it is better than Dawn Of Misery. If this demo is so boring, I wonder what the level of their first one is.
The Spanish metallers play a mixture of classic Heavy Metal with some slight US Power/Thrash touches (really slight). Their main influences seem to be the classic IRON MAIDEN melodies (the guitar work really pays tribute to the UK titans), the DIAMOND HEAD heavy tunes and the really crappy sound the 80's bands had (regarding the production of course). The demo's sound is awful and I can't understand why some people release CD's without trying to make them sound the best way possible! I am really wondering if they are satisfied with the level of the production.
Anyway, the six compositions of this demo CD are too common to be considered even decent. Throughout the approximately 32 minutes of Dawn Of Misery, I didn't come across even one moment that would make me believe these guys have the potential to do something really good. I think that this band will be lost in trying to play common and uninspired music that is being played by many bands (and much better).
