Well, old Metal fans throughout the world present a strange and weird feature, especially in Brazil: due the lack of a deeper education and culture, they complain about everything that is new. Yes, some prefer to live in the past, remixing the junk left by names that don't need to be mentioned, to hear the new, and the worst part is that they don't respect the new generations. Personally, I'm old, I saw the 80's, and I'm still here, maybe wiser enough to understand what bands as the Spanish quartet HELEVEN is up to. Their album "Medusa's Love Story" is really a very good experience.

It's a mix between modern Hard Rock with Alternative Metal, some Modern Metal features (especially in the greasy and powerful guitar sound) and even bit of Grunge Rock. But their melodies are really lovely, mixed with a massive musical weight and aggressive insight. Yes, there are really very good, their charming songs bears all the features that a Metalhead looks for. Then, let yourself be seduced by the energy of their music. The work done on the recording, mixing and mastering was excellent. Their musical work sounds heavy, aggressive and modern, but always with a clean insight in a way that their melodies and choruses can be understood and assimilated by the listener. The choice for modern tunes on the musical instruments was done wisely, because they are nasty and aggressive, but without becoming fuzzy.

Even for those that aren't introduced to these modern genres, "Medusa's Love Story" is really easy to be understood. And songs as the melodic and tender "Ghost of Me" (even with very aggressive guitars during the chorus) and "Waterfalls" (this one is a bit darker and introspective in a modern Doom/Gothic way, but always sounding dense and bitter), the melancholic and deeper "Last Chance" (in some parts the listener will remind ALICE IN CHAINS' vocals ways), the greasy and modern "Above the Sky", the excellent abrasive harmonies of "Titans and Gods" (very good bass guitar and drums' works), and the contrasts between Progressive tender parts and noisy moments showed on "Suffering is Gone" will find a way to get you. There's no escape.

A very good set of songs, and although HELEVEN has potential to go further into their own music, "Medusa's Love Story" is already a great album.
