Boundless Torture

Usually, I say that a band must take extreme care when the recording sessions of an album are happening. It can make the difference between success and failure. There are genres that demand from the bands a crude sound, but even they must take care to not overload things. From Belgium, comes the one man band GATEWAY, and how this guy must understand what I mean, because "Boundless Torture" could be a better album.
Here we have a brutal and raw form of Doom Death Metal. But it's too primitive, too brutal, and the lack of some rhythmic changes, aligned to the oppressive tempos of the genre, turns the things into a monotone experience. It's boring to death, and primitive in a way that I must ask who told Robin that he could record an album... Really, it doesn't seem like a band that came after the times when PARADISE LOST, ANATHEMA and MY DYING BRIDE ravaged the lands with their earlier works.
The choice for this putrid and crude sound quality that we hear on "Boundless Torture" helps to bury the album. We barely can understand what is played, with that moldy feeling that can torment even the most patient writer you can think off (and I am not him/her). What this guy who produced this album was doing it when he was recording, mixing and mastering the songs?
The songs can't be helped in any way. Sorry, but with this technical simplicity the band uses, "Boundless Torture", "Famished Below", "Iron Storms" (the best song, for it is short and aggressive than the others, sounding like an Old School Death Metal band at least), and the long "Odyssey of the Bereave" are really here to try your patience. I had troubles to stay awake as the album was playing (and I have insomnia problems, mind you all). Even with the right sound quality, I think that things wouldn't improve.
If you're a Doom Death Metal fan who loves the bands I named above, stay away. But if you want to see for yourself, I wish you good look...
