It has been some time since I last received a promo from Copro Records or Casket Music (who is actually a division of Copro). Let's see what the British people have for us this time. One more band trying to mix Grunge with Metal? Hell no, GALLEONS are... much more weird, hehe!
GALLEONS is a four piece hailing from Nottingham, UK, and this is the band's very first step into the world of music. "Swans" EP is comprised of three songs full of complex rhythms and twisted melodies and a huge love towards THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN!
Yeah, you heard it right. The very first thing that comes in your mind when you listen to this EP is the US Mathcore band. This British quartet features those weird and complex rhythms, but also has this melodic and somehow epic atmosphere in its songs. Generally, you will find many similarities with DILLINGER, but the fact is that these guys seem to be able to not only write this kind of music, but also handle the difficulties of writing music that is technical, modern and makes sense! Thank God, this was not one of those classic bands that end up making noise and name their abomination "art"!
Since this is not even an EP, I can't actually have a "solid" opinion on this band. I will be waiting for a full-length album to see what GALLEONS can really do. Three songs with lengths that range from 2:20 to 3:12 may sound good, but don't show the true potential of this band.
