80% of the demos I get are from newly established acts. 10% come from bands with at least one or two more demos, 5% from bands with an album already released. The surprise comes from the last 5%. It's in this small fragment of the pie where I receive demo works from acts running around for a decade (!), or having released 4-5 albums (!).
Eighteen belongs in this last fragment. You see G.L.A.S. was formed back in... 1985! In case you are wondering if they've existed for so many years, why don't I know them? lets just say that the course of the band over the years brings in mind Greek tragedy. Band members come and go, the band splits up several times to then be reformed again and again. As far as I realized from their bio sheet, in twenty years they have release a demo and one EP! Not so productive I must say.
So what can a twenty-year old band have to offer to the modern Metal scene? Well, first of all let's say that G.L.A.S. play melodic Rock / A.O.R. if you prefer, with many U.S. references in their song writing approach. The compositions are quite simple and FM friendly. I have no problem with this. However, the vocals didn't convince me at all. The band must shake off the Italian accent that doesn't fit at all with the whole package.
Eighteen should have had a much better production. The production and the vocals don't help at all the overall sonic image of this demo. If the band believes that they have what it takes to release a full length then they must add extra weight on those two matters. In conclusion I must say that this demo didn't really impress me.
