DISCHORD are from Moncton, NB, Canada and formed in 2004.  "Corruption of Innocence" is the band's second full-length, and they have released a live album and one EP as well.  This is a band for fans of technically-proficient Death Metal.  While that is certainly not the limit of the band's sound, it serves as am ample context upon which to put everything in.  One does not have to be a musician to appreciate the band's talent for after they venture into something abstract, they often return to a more digestible part.

The first track is titled "Beware the Rage of a Desperate Man" and introduces a band with a sound that blends technical Thrash and Death Metal.  My attention was truly grabbed, though, upon listening to the second track, "Order of the Assassins".  The extreme fringes of the band's pedigree are on display with technical parts that explore realms akin to classic GORGUTS.  It is the precision of the mind of Chuck Schuldiner that frames the influences within, and everything is brought around full circle with a brutal Thrash riff.

The third track, "The Jackal," further explores classic Death Metal like a gifted prodigy.  When the band hits a break down in the middle of the song, it is shocking as if to say, "I didn't know you did...that".  The ending section is interesting in the way the bass gradually makes its presence known more and more against a more traditional heavy break down section.  It is a unique twist on a common trope of the genre.

In the fifth track, "Schizophrenic Disembodiment," the music perfectly fits what is implied by the title.  Adventurously, the concepts of melody, rhythm, and harmony are tested.  The moments that DISCHORD take to perform something flashy become the best on the album.  Theirs is a wide canvas used to paint their ideas.

It is with a methodical precision that the band unveil their intentions.  Across eight tracks, one is taken on a tour of boundary-pushing, expressive Metal.  Elements from Progressive to Hardcore and Thrash to Death Metal are explored.  This quadrilateral sound is enforced by an intriguing set of ropes and pulleys allowing just enough exploration and restraint.  Perhaps it is a testament to the band's instrumental flare to think of the sound mechanically.

This is a rewarding album for those up for the challenge.  It is also a less abrasive example of the genre to play for newbies.  Listening throughout, I imagined the band in a live setting.  If they can pull this off live, they have a sound that is one of the most well-rounded, technically-adventurous examples of Extreme Metal.
