Eternal Darkness
Deathcall

The Kiwi Stress-Free Death Metal 4-piece brought out their debut album in 2017. The follow up to 2016's Self-Titled EP. "Imbecile" has an almost Sludge-style brief solo, very similar to how many CORROSION OF CONFORMITY songs sound. The low death growls keep the pace steady as the tempo builds up to a further Thrash speed. The vocals are very distorted and aren't easy to follow, but the tempo and melody from the instruments are good enough to take the emphasis away. The contrasting melodies from slower Death Metal and faster Thrash are battling throughout the song to create a unique sound which works to build up the song.
"Enslaved" has a heavier start with has more of a Death Metal feel to it, the sped-up guitar works really well to open up the vocals, they aren't as slow as before, more in beat and balance with the song, it works much better. The overall tempo is great, similar to sounds that we have heard too many bands to list churn out. The song is stronger at this point, every area working together to create a dark harmony. The vocals don't do enough to overpower the song, as the song has the instruments to expand the potential.
"Burning Hatred" has a lower tempo from the off, with the vocals coming in short outbursts to match the guitar and drum beat. The beat is continuous, without branching out to expand and truly push the band. The tempo does not pick up until the very end where it pauses briefly before continuing at a slight faster pace. This song could have gone in several directions but the one it went in worked well enough for what they wanted.
"Blood and Steel" is more complex with a few different bends of the guitar right from the start than previous songs, but goes the same way in the sense that it sticks to one ideal and progression is minimal. The progression in the album is that the songs don't all sound the same. The vocals match the tempo of the song, but are too low to hear what is being said. <
