What makes Death Metal the Metal genre with more bands playing it?

Maybe the answer lies in a strange feature: as the mythical figure of Chuck Schuldiner was not a dumb radical, his form of playing and his eclectic vision influenced a lot the mind of many Metalheads that saw the genre as suitable for any musical experiment you can think of. Of course some idiots still insist that "Death Metal must be in this way" or something like that, but music has no rules of boundaries. And the German quintet DAWN OF DISEASE seems to follow this idea, for "Ascension Gate" is an amazing album.

To define their musical work is not difficult: it's a blend of the furious and simple Old School Death Metal from the 90s with very good melodies. Yes, it's truly simple to define in words, but their musical work goes beyond that, because their efforts are personalized. The technical level of the band is good, and we can say that the quintet sounds as a unity, where all the features are in the same level and the most important factor is the music itself...and it is what hooks us. The sound quality aligns the melodies with a fine clear insight, but keeping that brutal and raw feeling that a Death Metal band must bear. It's another very good work of Dan Swanö, who made the mixing and the mastering of "Ascension Gate". The balance between the band's musical elements is in a very good point of equilibrium between them.

"Leprous Thoughts" with its fast and brutal moments (very good guitars melodic parts), the introspective melodies of "Beneath the Waters" (where bass guitar and drums are showing an excellent work, keeping the brutality and creating very good tempo changes), the melancholic and bitter feeling that fills the aggressive and slow paced "Ascension Gate" (these grunts in the middle of melodies of the guitars are really excellent), the brutal and harsh "Akephalos", the modern Melodic Death Metal scent that permeates "Fleshless Journey", and the long and filled with rhythmic changes "Mundus Inversus" (once more, a storm of furious and melodic guitars) are their finest moments, but the entire album is really very good. Pay attention to their work, because the future is showing excellent possibilities for DAWN OF DISEASE. For now, to listen to "Ascension Gate" is an excellent experience.
