Spreading The Rock 'N Roll Disease
Crosson
The greater part of the readers must have in mind that Hard Rock is not a new style in Metal. It was born in the end of the 70s, along with Metal. It's an accessible, strong, and catchy style, filled with many peculiar features. The more it gets older, the better it will sound to you. It's not a coincidence that after the dominance on the 80s, the style is back. The Australian quintet CROSSON is doing its part on "Spreading the Rock 'N' Roll Disease", their first album.
It is filled with the nasty sound like bands as MÖTLEY CRÜE did in the past, but without losing the grasping musical accessibility, with very good choruses and all the catchy melodic lines we are used to. Although they are far from doing something really different from what was done in the past, they are creative enough to turn their album into something really good. The album sound quality is really quite good. But when we see the names as Duane Baron (that already worked with OZZY OSBOURNE and MÖTLEY CRÜE) and Mikko Karmila (that made works for NIGHTWISH and EDGUY) on the mixing and Dave Donnelly (that made some works with KISS, WHITESNAKE and AEROSMITH) on the mastering, it becomes clear why it is so good.
Powerful, melodic, and catchy, "Spreading the Rock 'N' Roll Disease" is excellent, having ten tasteful songs. The best are: the nasty and hooking "Spreading the Rock 'N' Roll Disease" (with good vocals and arrangements on backing vocals and the chorus), the fusion of Gothic Rock voices with Hard Rock moments on "All About the Music", the raw melodies shown on "Lies" and "Take Another Shot" (both with excellent chorus, and great work from bass guitar and drums), the good guitars and groove on "Horizontal Bop", the heavy weight of "Rip Out My Heart", and the excellent melodic lines of "Rise".
They are really talented, and although they can do better than we hear on "Spreading the Rock 'N' Roll Disease", they really sound excellent on the album.
