Cataract - With Triumph Comes Loss album cover

Have you ever heard of the name Cataract before? Well if you haven't, I seriously and unconditionally suggest you checked them out immediately; but either you will or not, they're coming to get you for sure. Jesus I could swear that I haven't listened to such a bombastic record since The Haunted's s/t one! Exaggeration? You rather weren't prepared for the groundbreaking Great Days Of Vengeance, cause this pure holocaust over here is only justified by it's predecessor's dynamics.
The very promising quintet from Switzerland, outfitted by the rage and fury from the holy fathers Slayer and their European appendix The Haunted, made many people babbling after their thunderous debut and I bet even more with this one. Maddening, crippled, manic Thrash Metal with an intense hardcore touch that doesn't slow down, not even for a second. Do you remember an old Warlord release entitled And The Cannons Of Destruction Have Begun? Well, I've got serious reasons to believe that this title was literally nailed deep inside each Cataract member's brain during the recording of this album. For fuck's sake from the first millisecond of Killing Tool you feel the band vigorously landing on your face like a God damn tornado! A 40-minute war, surely the world's most brief one and without any nuclear weapons though, it spreads devastating casualties like an incurable pestilence.
Musically speaking, if there weren't 1 or 2 quite conventional songs this album could easily contest for perfection. Killing rhythms that vary from mid-tempo to astral (except for the epical last track, With Triumph Comes Loss which is quite diversified from the others) with one and only common point: aggression. You shouldn't expect cheesy refrains from this album, melodic parts or clean vocals for marketing's sake. We leave such things to bands who seek desperately some airplay time, sacrifising their dignity in the sale's altar. Cataract looks like a band with endurance and resistant in time and the most important thing is that they know what they want to deliver, utilizing flawlessly the principal goods.
If their previous effort was just a warning, I stand proud to say that their development, primarily as a band and secondary as a force in the music industry, will meet gigantic growth due to With Triumph Comes Loss. Anyone familiar to Thrash/Hardcore/Extreme Metal should thank God about this one and break his piggy bank as soons as possible to purchase it. In this triumph, there won't be any losers...
