Blood Revolt - Indoctrine album cover

BLOOD REVOLT is the new project featuring the vocals of singer Alan "Nemtheanga" Averill of PRIMORDIAL, along with drummer J. Read (REVENGE, CONQUEROR, AXIS OF ADVANCE) and guitar player C. Ross (AXIS OF ADVANCE). The lineup itself fills you with great expectations and you are waiting for something really good.

But, in my opinion, unfortunately things don't go that way. The beginning of the album gives you the impression that you are going to listen to something not that close to PRIMORDIAL, as long as the vocal melody lines concern, since the first riff reminds me of GOD DETHRONED's latest album. So until the middle of the song I really loved it! But just some seconds later, when Alan starts to sing, it is obvious that something is not matching. This up tempo Death Metal doesn't have anything in common with the clean voice of Alan. When he decides to just speak or growl, things get a lot better. In fact those are the only good moments of the album. I gave this album many chances and, to tell you the truth, I was able to catch some details in the arrangements and some individual melodies that I really liked; for example the last half of "Bite The Hand, Purge The Flesh", "Bite The Hand, Purge The Flesh" and "Indoctrine". At the end, though, I still believe that this is a - in the best of cases - mediocre album.

Sometimes only the gathering of some good and well known musicians doesn't guarantee that the album is going to be good. And BLOOD REVOLT with "Indoctrine" is an example for this theory. Good and well known musicians => mediocre album. Hopefully these interesting arrangements and the good ideas will show them the way for their second album.
