Blood Red Saints

BLOOD RED SAINTS are newcomers to the scene, forming a mere two years ago in 2014 in the heart of the UK, this Rock quartet bring alive the spirit of the 80s in the modern day. It's hard not to feel a fondness for them when they sound so alike every 80's Rock idol before them.
The first track on the album is a dead ringer for "Kickstart My Heart" , it's easy to see that their influence here is MOTLEY CRUE so much so that it's hard to get the notion out of your head when listening to it. This seems to be a running theme throughout the album, I feel like they never really come into their own. A prime example of this is the song "Best of Me". They try to write a FOREIGNER-esque ballad but end up sounding like THE BACKSTREET BOYS. You could listen to each song on the album and find the similarity to their influences easily. Granted, when so much has been done with music already it can be hard to sound original sometimes, I'm guilty of it. But when every song sounds like another song that's already been done is where a line needs to be drawn.
With all that said, the talent on this album is phenomenal, just the composition and songwriting leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to originality. The guitar solos are spine tingling, the vocals will melt your heart and the bass and drums will make you weak at the knees. Throughout the album we're treated to absolutely beautiful talent and music, talent that only well-established musicians will be able to harness and that is something that should be truly commended.
After doing a bit of research I found that the track "Feels A Lot Like Love" is a tribute to their friend who sadly passed away. It's a beautiful piece of music and not too sad like a lot of tributes of this nature seem to be. Their friend would be proud of this one.
There is a lot of talent on this album, so much that it's overflowing. But then they do have a tendency to sound like carbon copies of their idols. So for that reason this album is a hit and miss, you should pick up this album, I know I'll be keeping this in my digital collection purely as a reminder to keep up with them and await their next release.
