Baby Woodrose - Dropout! album cover

THIS IS NOT A HEAVY METAL RECORD. So, unless you have soooo much spare time or you are a die-hard Metal Temple reader, I really wonder why are you still going through this review... Baby Woodrose's Dropout! clearly belongs to a Garage/Punk Rock magazine. Thus, I must repeat: THIS IS NOT A HEAVY METAL RECORD. (By the way, we have to find out how the hell this promo CD came to us, dontcha think Chief?...) [C.E. replies: just another case for the X-Files I guess...]
Baby Woodrose come from Denmark, Formed in 1999 by Lorenzo Woodrose, as a side project to his band then, On Trial. Initially destined to be an one-record band, Baby Woodrose became successful enough with their debut album, Blows Your Mind, eventually continueing as a full-time Garage/Fuzz act. Among the band's credits is their appearance as the opening band for 2003's Roskilde Festival (also featuring Iron Maiden & Metallica) in Denmark.
Dropout! is not the follow up to the Money For Soul (2003) album, this is a Baby Woodrose tribute to the garage groups of the 60's that have influenced the band over the years. Included are covers of lesser known - for me at least - bands like The Savages, Painted Faces, The Lollipop Shoppe and The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band to more well known acts like Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, The 13th Floor Elevators, Love, The Stooges, The Sonics and The Saints. Every song clearly carries the Baby Woodrose additional trademark, since I know some of the originals and they totally sound like Baby Woodrose songs. Weird, ha?
THIS IS NOT A HEAVY METAL RECORD. So, first of all, I don't think this release has to be rated. But, apart from that, Dropout! succeeded in reminding me how plain real music is, in a time when billions of chords and solos' notes cheat on creating real qualitative music. If the record was out a little bit later, I'm sure an extra song would be included as homage to Marky Ramone. Judge from that, even if THIS IS NOT A HEAVY METAL RECORD.
