AUX ERA is an Experimental Rock band from Brooklyn, New York. They present their debut self-titled EP here, which contains five tracks. The album was released on February 2, 2018. "Shine On, Fools" is the opening track. A suspenseful bass line and some background keys lead off the song. The vocals are ethereal in nature and occupy some of the ambiance given off in the song. Guitar notes start as dissonant and echo in the deep chasm that is starting to form as the song becomes more chaotic. Several styles of music are in the blender here...part Doom, Stoner perhaps, and Avant Garde for sure.

"Rearview" has more of a traditional Rock sound out of the gate, led by a linear guitar riff and the unison of bass and drums. Abundant cymbal crashes light up the track, while the vocals have some more presence. The dissonance here is tempered a bit by some more atmospheric passages. "Imposters" is the lengthy track on the album, at over eleven minutes. It has a dreamy quality to it; an almost free-form element of songwriting. It's really unlike anything that I have heard in a while. The middle section is like a drive through the desert at night, on a long and lonely highway, with nothing but your thoughts to occupy your consciousness.

"Flagburner" opens with more of a jovial sound. The vocals often sound like echoes in the wind, while the guitar and bass chords build a sound that is pretty most of the time, and a bit sinister at others. Struggling to find any other band out there to compare this sound to, I acquiesce and just listen to the music. "Remedial Math" is a shorter, four-minute closer. The pace quickens and the melodies crash against each other as if trapped in a bag and trying to escape. The discord can be quite striking, but don't mistake it for lackadaisical. Indeed, the parts of the machine are working as they should but perhaps not as evident to the outside.

I am always up for something new and different, and AUX ERA definitely fits the bill. The spectrum of Rock music is vast and expansive, and there is room for anything in a genre that really has no boundaries. Where does AUX ERA fit? I am not completely sure, but conventions do not apply, and anyone looking for an experimental and singularly unique sound will be able to appreciate their style, in my opinion. For me, that is what they album is all about: Method, style, and peculiarity.
