Necromantic Love Songs
AntropomorphiA
Ok, I really understand that we are living a romantic epoch of our time, with many reissues. But I really have to ask: why in the blazes some works have this opportunity, and many others, really excellent, are left aside?
I don't understand... Really, I can't understand why albums as "Necromantic Love Songs", a compilation of some works from the Dutch band ANTROPOMORPHIA deserve such honor...
I know, I know: they are an ancient band from the beginning of the Death Metal invasion from the first half of the 90s. But it's just a compilation containing their 1992's Demo Tape, "Bowel Mutilation", and the EP "Necromantic Love Songs". And to be clear, it's a new release of it.
You'll find the same Death Metal on Old School way, with guttural grunts, nasty riffs, and a pretty simple rhythmic work. Even on those times, they couldn't be compared to bands as MORBID ANGEL, BENEDICTION, NOCTURNUS, DEICIDE and OBITUARY. And nowadays, it sounds pretty boring...
The sound quality is not as nasty as we could think of. No, it is good, being aggressive and raw as a Death Metal band must sound, but with a level of clearness really strange for a recording of those days. It seems that Tore Stjerna, who re-remastered the album at Necromorbus Studio, really did a very good job.
They really have some good moments, as the songs "Crack the Casket" (very good riffs indeed, with interesting rhythmic changes as well), the fine bass guitar work heard on "The Carnal Pit", the very good slow moments heard on "Rotted Flesh", all of these from their EP, can show. And the songs of the Demo Tape as "Splattered Remains" show their potential. But nothing on this compilation could beat the giants from those days.
Of course that their later works are fine, but "Necromantic Love Songs" seems an item for their fans, nothing more than this.<
