Hell yeah! There are times like this one, when you grab a glass of good old whiskey, sit down, relax and listen to a good Death Metal album. These are the highlights of my life (pretty boring life, huh?). Hopefully, there are still good Metal bands out there, that make my whiskey more enjoyable. You surely have understood where I'm getting at. Ok, I confess. Aeternus are one of these bands...
Based on Norway, Bergen, Aeternus are a Death Metal band (previously Black Metal). They were founded during 1993. The band debuted with the EP Dark Sorcery (1996), which earned them a contract with Hammerheart Records. There, they released their debut album, Beyond The Wandering Moon (1999). Aeternus have managed to play with bands like Marduk, Cannibal Corpse and Emperor, pretty good, huh? Anyway, this is their eighth full-length album, this time via Karisma Records.
First of all, I would like to add that the recordings of the drum parts have been made by Erik, who has recently been replaced by S. Winter. So, Hexaeon is a classic Death Metal album with all the well-known ingredients. Raw production, heavy as hell riffs and hellish vocals. I know it is old school, but I like it! I mean, it was about time that I didn't hear one more Death Metal album with this shiny, incredible production! Oh god I love this sound! When I hear their tracks, it's like traveling away, going years back... These guys surely unleashed hell! The lyrics are, for one more time, about darkness, pain, blah blah blah... What else could they sing about when they're a brutal Death Metal band? Pretty flowers, love and peace? Now that I think about it, it would be interesting! Just kidding... Anyway, this is a very strong release, which applies to all the true Death Metal fans out there! A great album from a great band!
If you are a die-hard fan, you already know what to do. If you are a Death Metal fan, you know what to do, too! If you don't like Death Metal, just stay away! You have been warned!
