SLAUGHTER frontman Mark Slaughter has co-produced "Nashville Rises", a new short film documentary narrated by Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton. A trailer for the film, which is tentatively due in March, can be viewed below.
Devastation, hopelessness, confusion, misery. These are some of the emotions people go through when affected by a natural disaster. On May 1 and May 2, 2010, the citizens of Nashville, Tennessee tested these emotions. Also known as the 1000-year flood, this disaster is the worst in Tennessee history, with over 2 billion in damages. Historic landmarks such as the Opry House and the Country Music Hall of Fame were inundated in water.
Even going through the worst natural disaster in Tennessee history, this didn't stop the citizens from rising up. This is a story about the power of the human spirit, and how neighbor helped neighbor to overcome this tragedy.
"We wanted to make this film to show the world what happened to our city. If you live outside of Nashville, you may have never even heard about this disaster," says Zac Adams, the film's writer/producer/director. "My goal with this documentary is to raise awareness and educate people about what really happened on May 1st and 2nd 2010 in Nashville. Citizens didn't wait for the federal government to bail them out. It didn't matter what your race, age, or religion was. It was about this community coming together, and helping each other. And that's a pretty amazing thing to see."
"Nashville Rises" will make its festival run in early 2011.
