A statement fromMantarreads:"After playing a full tour for the first time in the US in March with Mutilation Rites, we are beyond stocked to already be back in May with our friends from Conan. We can't wait to play North America again; it's a rare and cool thing for a German band to get the chance to come over in general. Even more cities we haven't played yet will be hit by this awesome package, and without a doubt, Maryland Deathfest 2015 will be one of the highlights in our short career so far."
Formed in mid 2012, Northern Germany's two-piece monsterMantarimmediately took the punk/metal worlds by storm with their ferocious, infectious approach to heavy music. The half-German/half-Turkish duo, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Hanno Klaenhardt and drummer Erinc Sakarya, self-released their first 7" single in October 2013, which quickly sold out and created a palpable buzz in the underground. As a direct result of the 7"'s success,Mantarsigned to renowned, eclecticinternational labelSvart Recordsto record their full-length debut.Recorded in 2013 and titledDeath By Burning, the album is a raw, self-produced, and 100% DIY display of power.Death by Burningwas released on CD/LP/digital to immense critical acclaim on February 7th, 2014.Managing to sound even heavier than most five-piece bands, in spite of the fact that no bass guitar was used on the record,Death by Burningchannels early Melvins, Motorhead, and Darkthrone to deliver a deliciously evil blend of blackened punk.
Within weeks of its release,Mantarreceived gig requests from all over the world, as well as invitations to huge international festivals like Oya Festival (Norway), Getaway Rock (Switzerland), Jalometalli (Finland) and the Mecca of forward-thinking heavy music itself, Roadburn 2014 (Netherlands), where they headlined the small stage on the festival's first night.By the end of 2014, the band visited 17 countries, including a three-week co-headlining European tour with Inter Arma and a special appearance at renowned punk rock festival The Fest in the United States.By the end of the year,Death By Burningappeared on numerous year-end best-oflists,includingMetalHammerGermany,LAWeekly(US),Exclaim(Canada),MetalSucks(US),Terrorizer(UK) and many more publications, zines and websites.2014 also sawMantarself-release another 7" single in April, which sold out within weeks.
2015 is already shaping up to be an even busier year for the "Gruesome Twosome," as they are confirmed for numerous festivals around the world, including Wacken Open Air (Germany), Temples Festival (UK), Party San (Germany), Burning Light (Portugal), and the USA's most important extreme metal festival, Maryland Deathfest.Mantarhave also toured the US for the first time ever with Mutilation Rites, including a well-receivedappearance at theSXSW festival. The band entered the studio in February to record their highly anticipated sophomore album. This is only just the beginning, asMantarare here to stay!
