Silent Ruins

Swedish ISOLE seems to run a period of maximum flights of imagination and inspiration. One year after Bliss Of Solitude and they present a new album, continuing their march headlong. This is well-played Doom, with very good sound, some Epic elements in the distance and vocals that except their wonderful melodies take the best places inside the songs. Furthermore, beyond anything else, in this album all the instruments sound excellent and special allusion must given for the drumming that adds deeper meaning in the whole compositions.
Most of what's written above is - more or less - known, especially for friends of ISOLE, the last years. In the last full length they didn't make any serious change except that - personally speaking - I feel Forevermore and Throne Of Void stands a little bit better than the last two. In particular if I would compare Bliss Of Solitude with Silent Ruins I think the first one is better. This doesn't reduce the quality of the last album, and I clearly say that except being a 'must' for any Doom maniac it has a lot to give to any Heavy Metal fan. I have written in the past that I waited and I'm still waiting something bigger from ISOLE.
Melancholy and darkness are here everywhere. From The Dark is a song with many changes and a part with some bells where you will have an intense feeling. Riffs straight from CANDLEMASS and SOLITUDE AETURNUS are in the very good Forlorn as in Hollow Shrine. The soul decadence reaches bottom in Soulscarred with these icy melodies, while Peccatum looks so black and dusty making you forget any emotional exaltation.
The majority of the tracks here have really nice solos (Dark Clouds) but in some points I guess it could have been better, for example in Forlorn; although good, it seems a little bit unfinished, or I would like it more extended. Generally ISOLE builds the songs structures in such way that can impress you, making them sometimes ultra complicated with the first and last tracks being characteristic examples. In the band's older days this worked easier but I will repeat that here you will surely enjoy good music. Ah, and the Black/Death vocals in some parts - very few, don't worry - made the whole emotional attack that Silent Ruins emitted more painful. Another good album added in their catalogue, the first part of something like a concept with an after-destruction-life in somewhere. You have to give them time to be better musically understood and if you do so then they will give you a lot more.
