Illdisposed - The Prestige album cover

Is it just my imagination or do ILLDISPOSED get more melodic as time goes by? I remember my amazement at the brutality of their really good Kokaiinum album and I never bothered searching for anything of their stuff (even though I never realized the reason). 7 years after their more than decent work of brutality, these guys return with a brand new album that is somehow... different from what I expected.

The Danish death metallers are slightly different from what they were back in 2001, when they released Kokaiinum. They have changed a guitarist and a drummer, as well as label, since they are not part of the Roadrunner family anymore. Under the name of their new label AFM Records, the Death Metal act releases its ninth (although I consider Return From Tomorrow to be an EP release) full-length work.

As the band members say themselves, the band started experimenting more on its sound from its 2004 1-800 Vindication album. To tell you the truth, I preferred the band's old sound. Their current musical form is a mixture of brutality, melody and groove. I know it sounds cool, but I believe that the band tried to make a commercial move that wasn't successful enough to change things for them. At least their music was way more honest in the past. There are times that they remember their old glorious days and they remind me of the singer's other band, the great PANZERCHRIST, but in general the melodic leads and the whole modern atmosphere are stuff I have come across a million times while reviewing albums.

Ok, the production has been done by Fredrik Nordstrom and the sound kicks ass and blah blah blah... If you want melodic Death Metal that defines what modern Metal music is better go listen to the new SOILWORK album that will kick your nuts!
