Shadowlands
Graceless
Old School Death Metal still has the same charm of when the genre became evident, back in 1989-1990. Obviously the albums recorded on those days are classics of Death Metal today. But the classics aren't to be copied, but to be seen as standards of the genre. So we can say that GRACELESS is here to carry on the traditions of Death Metal, as we hear on "Shadowlands".
Their musical work is based mainly on the raw and brutal insight from Swedish Death Metal School, using slow tempos (not as Doom Death Metal bands), with an aggressive insight without any trace of modernity. No, they play in the Old School form, and besides it makes their music anything that we heard time and time again in the past, it is filled with energy and personality.
The sound quality is a mix between a modern outfit and trying to have the same raw and aggressive instrumental tunes from the 90s, when the ruthless sound was associated with an organic feeling. Yes, it's good result in the end, because you understand what the band plays, but with the presence of that spontaneous feeling from the past.
Their album is very good, with all songs presenting very god moments. But "Legions of the Fallen" with its catchy parts and very good vocals, the brutal impact of "Slashed and Served", the Hardcore feeling of "Heroin Filled Veins" (a fine work of bass guitar and drums is presented on this song), the excellent slow tempos of "Sumerian Flames" (that shows fine guitars' arrangements and tempo changes), and the dynamics between the instrumental parts with the guttural grunts on "Iron Tears" are proofs that they are a talented band that can do way better than we hear on "Shadowlands".
They are good, and I hope that the future will make GRACELESS a better band.
