MISS MAY I are one among the fortunate/ successful Melodic Metalcore bands of this age. Ever since they teamed up in the year 2007, the band was lucky enough to get a massive record deal with Rise Records in 2008 through which they released their debut album "Apologies Are For The Weak" whilst the members were still stufdying in High School. Their Musical career blossomed as the albums which followed AAFTW were quite splendid and got a world wide attention. All went well untill 2015, which created a sense of hatred towards the band for producing a rather bland album with "Deathless". In order to overcome this negative response, MISS MAY I geared up yet again to record "Shadows Inside", which was released earlier in 2017.

MISS MAY I took their original sound and spliced it with some more melodic elements to make songs more appealing and catchy. This album's breakdown-centric approach is blended with djenty guitar passages that are often followed by some short-lived guitar solos, adding more lustre to their current sound. The track that is rather appealing and worth mentioning is "Lost In The Grey", which is one of the songs that belongs to the latter half of the album. It might seem weird starting the review from the back end of the album, but the reason why I mentioned this song first is that this track is by far the best one in terms of Instrumentation as well lyricism. With motivational lines like: "We Are Stronger than this....." the song is beautifully executed and the amount of work done on the delivery of this optimistic message compliments the Instrumentation well.

The album as a whole doesn't seem to fall apart. The adrenaline is consistent throughout the album as the last and first tracks of the albums have same energy; a comparison of "Lost In The Grey" and the title track "Shadows Inside" will reflect this. In the mean time, I won't call this album perfect, because of the lack of originality and the generic nature of some of the songs. Well, originality might not be a huge factor for many, but the overuse of generic breakdowns might tire the listeners; after all that is why they are referred to as breakdown-centric. See, I'm having mixed feelings about the album, which,is not at all surprising; The current wave of Metalcore bands all have a similar effect .

From the blossoming euphony of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE-esque "Casualties" to the strong hard-hitting punch of "Lost In The Grey", "Shadows Inside" is good enough to keep their existing fanbase happy, but I doubt that newer listeners and OG Metalcore fans will like this album. Having followed MMI ever since they dropped their debut album, I don't consider "Shadows Inside" as their best work, like the rest of their fan base I consider  their debut album as their best. That being said, I really do recommend Melodic Metalcore enthusiasts to give this try.
