At Peace Amongst Chaos
Broken Teeth
Well, when Punk Rock and Hardcore started, back in the second half of the seventies, it had many differences from what we hear today. On modern bands, we barely feel the same aggressiveness (because the greater part of them is full of melodies, as we see on Californian Poppy Punk from the 90s), or the band's music is so full of Thrash Metal influences on their musical work that we barely could name as Hardcore (as those bands with slower tempos). So we can put the Manchester based quintet BROKEN TEETH on this second group, because it's what we all can hear on "At Peace Amongst Chaos".
Without defying what the band says about their work, all of us can feel a strong Thrash Metal/Crossover on their music. But even with the polemics that my words can cause, I can say that their musical work is pretty good, done with very good aggressive vocals, a strong and bold guitar duo (that creates insane riffs), and a powerful and heavy rhythmic session, with good technique. Yes, they are really good, but still have a way to go, needs more maturity.
Their sound quality is really good, clean and heavy, but keeping their songs as heavy and clean as it can. It's another different point from Hardcore, that uses a more dirty and raw sound on its recordings. But it fits very well in what they play, with fine tunes on all musical instruments.
Their ten songs are very good, sometimes slow and other one as fast as they can, but always heavy and violent.
"Take Me Away" with its abrasive guitars and very good rhythmic changes, the aggressive insight shown on "Stomp 2 Dust" (what good work from the guitars and very good backing vocals), the good technical arrangements that are presented on "At Peace Amongst Chaos" (a song with some slower song, where bass guitar and drums are showing how heavy they can be, but it has some fast parts as well), the good rhythmic work of bass and drums that "Witness of Destruction" has (along with good solos), and the excellent songs "Nothing Like You" and "Riot of the Mind" (both done with very good guitars, along with good aggressive voices).
They still have to mature a bit, but they are in the right way.<
