Since 1999 the name INCANTATION has remained one of the most Influential bands and one of the most recogniseable names in the Death Metal scene. In the very same year the band would release their first ever EP entitled "Entrantment Of Evil" which would go down as one of the most important Eps in Death Metal history, today I have the great privilege of reviewing the reissue of this legendary recording.
To start off any record or EP I would like to begin with the EP's title track and first track entitled "Entrantment Of Evil". The track starts off with INCANTATION's signature aggression and speed to which the band has been able to keep to this day and have continued to show over the course of their existence as a band, through listening to this track I have to say it does take me back to when I first gave INCANTATION a listen when I was eleven and still to this day it holds its power and brutality just as I remember, even still this was a track still holds its on no matter what, to me this would be the best way for any Metal fans to get into Death Metal as I feel through listening to this track the listener would be able to appreciate the hard work and effort that this song holds.
Next up is the EP's second track entitled "Eternal Torture". What I really love about this EP the most is how every song on it is a little bit different but at the same time each song seems to compete with eachother as if seeing which can be heavier then the other and simply put this Eternal Torture is an example of just that. The track starts off with a powerful and intense drum beat, but what makes it brilliant is the quality of the drums that makes the opening to the track so awesome, I feel that the quality of the drums makes this song more live for the listener as it feels like your actually in the room while the drums were being recorded. As always Will Rahmer brings his destructive voice to the front line and brings it hard with every growl building each time to knock everything down in one go. This man's voice to me is iconic, to me this is one of the finest examples of Death Metal just because it holds strong and shows that it is a serious piece of music that can really get you going, to me this is the type of music that helps when your pissed off or mad at something, this is music that can help bring out the good times folks.
Next up ladies and gentlemen is the Eps third track entitled "Unholy Massacre". Compared to the last two tracks "Unholy Massacre" holds some very different elements which makes this one of the tracks on the EP that stands out the most and makes it mark on the listener with fast intense guitar riffs and drum beats which pound deep into the temples of the listener with full force and aggression and without any sign of mercy to show, as with the other two tracks both had their own power and elements that made those songs stand out, but in all honesty I feel that with "Unholy Massacre" there is much more here then originally thought and can be seen quite easily, the vocal and drum combination on this track is powerful to say the least as it shows how hard Incantation went into making not only this track heavy but the entire EP at that, I feel from where I am stood the raw energy coming off of this track and hitting me right between the eyes, to me that is quality if nothing else.
Finally we come to the EP's end with the track "Devoured Death". Now with "Devoured Death" what you can expect is a slow and destructive opening accompanied by hard and raw guitar riffs to make this in my opinion the best track on the record for yours truly, I love the rapid structure that this track shows and how intense it can get just out of nowhere, the only shame I have always felt is how short it is, but when you think on that this track takes you and breaks you just in two minutes and eighteen seconds, so all in all this is a track that opens heavy, and ends heavy leaving myself and listeners wanting more, this is the part where we of course begin the EP again and relive the experience all over again.
To conclude, this EP to this day has remained one of the most important of the early Death Metal scene, just because what it has in total is a raw and powerful sound which still remains the same to this day and in my opinion still has some of the most badass artwork out there. In general though this has been a great experience for me to review this EP as it has brought back some brilliant memories and reminded me why I love the Death Metal scene to begin with.
