Taking their name from the Sanskrit word "sādhaka", which is used to describe someone who follows a particular path "or follows a way of life designed to realize the goal of one's ultimate ideal, whether it is merging with "brahman" or realization of one's personal deity", SADHAK is a Norwegian one-man project that plays Doom Metal. Originally their self-titled demo was released last year independently but now is being re-released through Shadow Kingdom Records.

SADHAK's strength is its beautiful Doom atmosphere that surrounds this release, from the name of the band to the cover of the demo, which depicts a landscape at night with a mysterious old man standing in the moonlight; it all helps to conjure images of a forbidden realm straight out of a Lovecraft tale. When "On the Arrival of Man" starts it further reinforces this idea, with its slow pace and ghoulish vocals this is the best song on this release, the great thing about this song is, even though it has a very simple riff played in a very slow pace, this is the heaviest song I have heard in a while.

The main drawback of this release, which I don't know if it is intentional or not, is its production, this is not much of a problem on the first song, it even helps, but on the second, "The Perfection of Wisdom", it does more harm than good, it is still a pretty decent song but in comparison to the previous one it is not all that big deal.

"Sadhak" is the perfect soundtrack for when you are enjoying a good Lovecraft story in a dark rainy night. In conclusion even with its drawbacks this is a pretty good release from a band that shows great potential and highly recommended for fans of Doom Metal.
