Black Verses

This is literally an album that I struggled through. "Black Verses" by the Spanish trio SVIPDAGR is a record that aims to create the most "traditional" style of Black Metal with an extremely rough production and a raw sound. The result was deafening cacophony with a fairly good atmosphere to it.
Vocals can really make this album annoying and unbearable, at least for me, yet the instrumental is pretty decent, and some tracks can be really engaging, namely "View Through the Rusty Helm" and "Infighting, Evocation to Black Metal II". Probably the best track of the album. "Ego Sum Lux Mundi (I'm the Light of the World)" really captures all the old-school Atmospheric Black Metal elements that SVIPDAGR are trying to cram per song.
The Spaniards really managed to create a bleak atmosphere and that's probably the only worthwhile thing on this record. Still, this is definitely an album that I wouldn't revisit.
