Guido Campiglio - Rumble In The Jungle album cover

GUIDO CAMPIGLIO is a solo guitarist from Italy, recreating the feel of the best shredders from the 80's. "Rumble In The Jungle" is a fine album, with quite a few different styles throughout it, but Campiglio's fretwork always take centre stage, and rightfully so.

There's no doubt at all that Campiglio is very talented. The album has a great fluency to it, even with the different genres present here - you've got Hard Rock, obviously, but there's Jazzy elements to it, Electronic inserts and rhythmic elements. Never fear though, this is most certainly a Rock album, and if anything, the different styles add new levels to the music. It says something about the production values that all these different styles have been tied together, and are visible within the songs, but they don't detract from the overall Hard Rock shredding feel of "Rumble In The Jungle". Now I know that some of you may be wary of this because of the elements I've mentioned, but you shouldn't be, because the fretwork is still the main focus.

And now on to Campiglio's individual skill on the guitar, and there's plenty of it. He's not one of these guitarists who just focuses on speed playing, or playing impossible chords, or just plays riffs without much else. He encompasses all these elements in his playing which results in an excellent overall package. "Rumble In The Jungle" doesn't have any vocals which also lets the focus remain on Campiglio's playing. And even though he is the main constituent of the album, you can't ignore Cariboni and Dimonte's contributions as well, adding the framework for Campiglio's skill to rest on. I think that my favorite track is the penultimate on, "Dhalsim". It has a brilliant pace and rhythm to it, and it is one that I will be giving repeated listening to.

For those people out there that like albums without vocals, this is definitely one to check out. "Rumble In The Jungle" is an excellent release, slightly eccentric due to the different styles present, but well worth a listen.
