Of course the name BIOLENCE sticks like flies flypaper very effective but a bit annoying at the same time. Maybe that's more personal since I'm not a huge fan of word-games. But to describe the music, it sure can be effective. BIOLENCE delivers brutal Music and the lyrical themes are stated to be Mankind, Society, War and Mythology, then the name suites very good. This is a release, BIOLENCE's first EP "Melodic Thrashing Mayhem" wanders through a few of the different areas of Thrash Metal and Death Metal.
The first one (after the intro), named after the band "Biolence" set my mind on SEPULTURA's glory days around "Arise" and "Chaos A.D.". "Land Of Freedom" is far more melodic and soft, Heavy Metal basically. It's only the vocals that draw towards more brutal music. "Blood Of The Gods" has the same melodic vibe but is much rougher, Old School Death Metal I would say. The last one (apart from the outro) "Pure" continues in the same vibe. The one that stands out the most from the style but also became my favorite is the bands epithet "Biolence" but the differences between the songs keeps the "Melodic Thrashing Mayhem" EP interesting and teases my curiosity to hear more from BIOLENCE.
The bands performance left nothing to comment about, everything sounds really good and the songs are strong. Perhaps the music isn't particularly original but as long as the music is good that's enough. This is a quite diverse EP but still within scope of the style and a very good introduction to the band.
