With such a band name I cannot imagine anything else than a modern Metal (?) band trying to rape my ears with musical abominations. To tell you the truth, I was not very far from what I imagined, but these guys actually have some potential to escape from the crap hole they have fallen into. Let's see what we've got here...

This band was formed sometime in 2006 and debuted with a self released EP in 2007. Soon after Earache tracked them down and offered them a contract for the release of their first ever full-length album. Earache used to be the home for many Death, Grind and generally extreme bands but its latest investments are not exactly what I was expecting.

The UK technical Death Metal/Deathcore act is one of those kind of brutal bands you would see ending up in labels like Ferret etc. The fact is that except for the stupid song titles (that don't make any sense), THE BOY WILL DROWN has some really clever and interesting moments in Fetish that you simply can't overlook. Some NECROPHAGIST wannabe parts will surely make you want to bang your head, but it is just they sometimes lose it and sound like the definition of disharmony. A few beatdown parts here and there are also one more thing that breaks the technical monotony of Fetish giving the listener a few seconds to breathe until the next brutal onslaught. They may be kind of young, their music may be a part of some kind of trend, but these youngsters are surely talented but waste their talent on trying to be something else other than themselves.

I am really sure that if they work a bit more on trying to define THE BOY WILL DROWN's sound and be a bit more serious we will be talking about one more talented modern Death Metal/Deathcore band. The fact is that under the current circumstances this band is nothing more than a mediocre/slightly good band for its genre. I hope they do some extra homework and present a sophomore effort with mindblowing ideas. You have it in you boys, don't throw it away!
